A heartbreaking incident has shocked the community of Tungo village in Jigawa State, Nigeria. On April 26, 2025, the Jigawa State Police Command arrested a groom and his friends for allegedly coercing a young bride into non-consensual sexual activity, tragically leading to her death.
A statement made available to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital, on Sunday evening by the police spokesperson noted, “The groom, identified as Auwal Abdulwahab, 20, and his friends, Nura Basiru, 20, Muttaka Lawan, 20, and Hamisu Musa, 20, all from Tungo village, were arrested and taken into custody for discreet investigation.”
The sad event unfolded around 10 PM when police were alerted and a team, led by the Divisional Police Officer, rushed to the scene. It was reported that the bride had experienced disagreements with her husband over marital relations since their wedding. Unfortunately, those tensions culminated in a tragic outcome.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Abdullahi, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse to ensure a detailed and impartial investigation.
This tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the importance of respecting the dignity, will, and safety of every individual, especially within marriage. This is such an abominable act that no one could have imagined it in their hearts.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this devastating time. We pray that justice will be served and that such heartbreaking acts will be prevented in the future.
Final Word of Advice:
Marriage is built on love, trust, and mutual respect — not force or fear. Biblical marriage is between a man and a woman. Inviting friends to forcefully violate one’s wife is forbidden and must be punished. No one has the right to violate another, even within marriage. Let us all stand together to promote marriages that reflect the fear of God, honor, kindness, and dignity.
